Creating music, from my perspective, is an interesting nexus between the solitary and the communal. I believe the act of musical creation is a solitary act, but that the “music” doesn’t live until it is shared. For me, the most enjoyable aspects of music making are the fleeting, communally shared, social/interpersonal moments, those moments of magic in performance when the available forces align and then are gone. I’ve been enjoying those moments as a player or teacher since I started playing trumpet when I was nine years old.
